Two things to skip
A cheap PVC mat. It is the most common yoga gift and the one most likely to end up in a closet: it turns slippery in a warm room and the plastic off-gasses for weeks. Our materials guide explains why.
Scented mat sprays for a cork-mat owner. Cork needs a damp cloth, not a fragrance; concentrated essential oils dry the surface and dull the grip. The care guide covers what actually works.
